Jinan Guyun Percussion Instruments Co., Ltd. is located in Zhangqiu District, Jinan, Shandong Province—an area renowned for its natural beauty, fertile land and rich cultural heritage.
Guyun traces its origins back to 1992, when the business began as a family workshop specializing in traditional Chinese percussion instruments.
In 2002, the company met Mr. Liu Hanlin, a renowned authority on traditional Chinese percussion and Honorary Chairman of the Percussion Committee of the China Nationalities Orchestra Society. With his guidance over the following years, and with valuable advice and evaluation from leading percussion specialists—including Mr. Zhang Dahua, Mr. An Zhishun, Professor Zhong Donghe, Mr. Li Dongfang and Mr. Li Changjun—Guyun significantly improved its instrument-making techniques, production processes and overall product quality.
The Zhangqiu Guyun Percussion Instrument Factory was established in 2006. As the business continued to expand, Jinan Guyun Percussion Instruments Co., Ltd. was formally established in 2014.
Guyun specializes in the design and production of traditional Chinese percussion instruments, including:Five-piece paigu sets、Six-piece paigu sets、Paigu sets with auxiliary muted drums、Flowerpot drums、Korean-style folk drums、Traditional folk drums、Chinese bass drums、Flat drums、War drums、Yangko drums
In 2009, Guyun worked with Master Liu Hanlin to develop integrated-frame five-piece and six-piece paigu sets. Designed for professional performances, these innovative systems simplify setup and movement, significantly reducing the time and effort required during stage transitions.
Guyun paigu sets combine innovative structural design, refined craftsmanship and an elegant appearance with a powerful and vibrant sound. The high register is focused, solid and penetrating, while the middle and lower registers are full-bodied, resonant and sonorous.
Today, Guyun instruments are used by professional performers, conservatories, orchestras and educational institutions across China and have earned widespread recognition for their craftsmanship, tonal quality and performance reliability.
In 2011, following consultations with Professor Li Zhengui, Mr. Zhang Dahua, Professor Wang Yidong and Professor Wang Jianhua, Guyun Chairman Mr. Wang Lingxin worked with Remo, a leading American drumhead manufacturer, to develop customized Remo drumheads for Chinese five-piece paigu sets. The project proved highly successful and represented an important advancement in the performance and consistency of Guyun’s tuned drums.
In October 2022, Guyun’s mechanically adjustable universal drum stand officially entered mass production.
The stand was developed over more than two years of continuous design and refinement. Its development involved repeated adjustments to production plans and 3D technical drawings, precise coordination between individual metal components, and hundreds of rounds of testing, assembly and performance evaluation.
The resulting system provides flexible height adjustment, stable support and convenient positioning for a wide range of performance requirements.
