Educational Background
Li Chang began studying percussion under his father, Li Dianmin, at an early age. He is a graduate of the Central Conservatory of Music, where he studied under Professor Wang Jianhua, a doctoral supervisor and renowned percussion virtuoso.
During his studies, he received tutoring from celebrated artists of the "Eight Hammers" Percussion Ensemble including Tian Xin, Li Congnong and Ma Li, as well as professors Li Zhengui, Liu Guangsi, Liu Qiping, Liu Gang and Li Biao. Throughout his professional career, he has further benefited from mentorship by distinguished masters An Zhishun, Yan Xuemin, Chen Zuohui, Wang Yidong, Li Hui and Zhuang Jiepai.
Performance Experience
As a soloist, Li Chang has appeared at prestigious events including the Macao International Music Festival, Macao Arts Festival, Silk Road Arts Festival, Portugal International Music Festival and Shanghai Spring International Music Festival.
He has collaborated with conductors Peng Jiapeng, Wang Fujian, Zhang Lie, Liu Sha and Qu Chunquan, performing percussion concertos alongside the Macao Chinese Orchestra, China Broadcasting Chinese Orchestra, Guangdong Chinese Orchestra, Taipei Chinese Orchestra, Henan Chinese Orchestra, Hunan Chinese Orchestra, Shaanxi Song and Dance Theatre Chinese Orchestra, the "Eight Hammers" Percussion Ensemble and Tainan Music Collective.
He has premiered the commissioned work Echoes of Macau, composed exclusively for him.
As a guest percussionist, he has taken part in over one hundred performances with the China National Symphony Orchestra, China NCPA Orchestra, China Central Opera House, National Ballet of China and Macao Orchestra.
In recent years, he has collaborated frequently with Beijing’s "Eight Hammers" Percussion Ensemble, performing works such as Raise the Red Lanterns, Havoc in Heaven and Dragon Dance.
Educational & Outreach Work
Li Chang teaches percussion courses at the Macao Academy of Performing Arts, University of Macau, Macao Polytechnic University, as well as numerous local primary and secondary schools and community groups, dedicated to nurturing young local percussion talents in Macao.
He has been invited to deliver lectures titled A Brief Discussion on Percussion Applications in Orchestras at Taiwan University of Arts and Chinese Culture University (Taiwan).
